The Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science (KRS) in the College of Education offers a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree program accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). A professional preparation curriculum is provided for students who wish to teach physical education in grades K-12 and health education in grades 6-12. This program prepares professionals who are concerned with the acquisition and transmission of knowledge that contributes to the growth, development, health, fitness and wellness, and lifelong physical activity and motor performance of all individuals.
Admissions Requirements
Students interested in the B.Ed. program in physical education and health education must meet admission requirements of the College of Education.
Program Requirements
After admission to the College of Education and the successful completion of major and related courses, the student must complete the Professional Core of 42 credits. The minimum total number of credits required for graduation is 138 and a GPA of 2.75 must be maintained for approval for student teaching and for graduation from the College of Education.
The student who majors in this program of study must demonstrate competence in motor skills and comprehensive knowledge relative to content in health and physical education as well as effective teaching strategies, National and state standards, diversity issues, assessment, and accountability.
