The Statewide BEd program serves students who live on the islands of Hawai‘i, Kaua‘i, Lana‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i and O‘ahu. The Elementary BEd statewide program begins in May. Deadline for admission is November 1, apply to the BEd Distance/Statewide program.

Teacher candidates are members of a statewide cohort group that fulfills the same requirements as the campus-based cohort(s). Courses are offered through hybrid web-based instruction, which includes occasional face-to-face weekend meetings.

Stipends are provided to partially reimburse statewide teacher candidates for airfare and lodging for face-to-face meetings. The program requires three semesters of field experience (two days per week) and one semester of student teaching (five days per week) on the student's home island.

Student Expectations

"Hybrid" classes are taught online in addition to condensed weekend sessions. The nature of this program requires a moderate amount of computer literacy and comfort. It also requires self-discipline to maintain the pace of courses between meetings. If you are unsure of your comfort in working online or your ability to maintain progress between meetings, please consult with an advisor prior to applying.
