The MEd in Curriculum Studies with a Middle Level Emphasis (MLMED) in the University of Hawai'i at Manoa College of Education is developing a solid, local knowledge base, and leadership cadre in early adolescent education. (Check out the article: This We Believe: Educators of Young Adolescents are Just Like the Students - as Learners!) The MLMED is based on the Professional Standards for Teachers of Early Adolescents which call for developmentally and culturally appropriate educational practices for early adolescents (10-15 year olds). The MLMED applies and demonstrates the best of middle level educational practice (MLMED Portfolio)
Because of the cohort structure, unlike other emphasis areas in the MEd-CS, admission to our campus program only occurs during even-numbered years, except by special arrangement (see the MLMED Program Description).
MLMED Online Program
In addition to our MLMED program that is delivered traditionally in on-campus classes we will begin our first ever online cohort July 2009 to December 2011 (see Online MLMED Brochure). The principles of Middle level education that have been the foundation of our program will continue to drive the online program as well.
The M.Ed. in Curriculum Studies with a Middle Level Emphasis is open to: teachers, administrators, counselors, etc.; elementary, middle, intermediate, high, secondary, post-secondary, public, private, schools, etc. Applicants from Hawai‘i’s Neighbor Islands, mainland US, Australia, New Zealand, Samoa & the entire
